Salary Range: $35 to $42 per hour, depending on experience

Position Overview:

CDH Consulting is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Environmental Engineer to support environmental consulting projects for oil and gas clients. This role is intended for a skilled field professional with experience managing complex field investigations, remediation activities, drilling programs, and environmental sampling events. The successful candidate will serve as a technical field leader, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety while providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field implementation of environmental investigation, remediation, and compliance projects at active and former oil and gas facilities.

  • Plan and execute field activities with minimal oversight.

  • Provide oversight of excavation, drilling, well installation, remediation, waste management, and site restoration activities.

  • Conduct and oversee collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapor samples in accordance with regulatory and client requirements.

  • Monitor drilling and excavation contractors and document field activities.

  • Collect, interpret, and manage environmental data and prepare accurate field documentation, logs, and related records.

  • Identify field challenges and develop practical solutions while maintaining project objectives and regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory health and safety requirements.

  • Conduct safety briefings, perform hazard assessments, and actively promote a strong safety culture.

  • Serve as a mentor and trainer for entry-level scientists, geologists, and field staff.

  • Coordinate effectively with project teams, clients, contractors, and regulators.

  • Support technical report preparation through data review, field observations, and documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of environmental consulting, oil and gas, or related industry experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with at least two of the following:

    • Excavation oversight and confirmation sampling

    • Drilling oversight and subsurface investigations

    • Soil sampling

    • Groundwater sampling

    • Environmental field investigations

    • Remediation and restoration activities

  • Strong understanding of oil and gas operations and associated environmental issues.

  • Proven ability to safely lead field activities and make independent decisions in dynamic field environments.

  • Experience mentoring and training junior staff.

  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline preferred but not required for candidates with strong oil and gas environmental experience.

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification or SafeLand USA certification

  • Experience with petroleum hydrocarbon investigations and remediation.

  • Experience with groundwater monitoring well installation and development.

  • Familiarity with state oil and gas regulations and environmental closure programs.

  • Technical reporting and environmental data management experience.

This Position May Be Subject To:

  • Extreme cold and heat: temperatures typically below 32° F or above 100° F for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind, rain, snow, and humidity.

  • Noise: some locations with sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

  • Hazards: includes and is not limited to a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.

  • Motor vehicle record evaluation and ability to operate a vehicle safely and lawfully.

  • Routine and periodic alcohol and drug testing.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

  • The employee will minimally lift, push, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to frequently traverse challenging terrain for extended periods, including workdays of up to 10 hours, to evaluate project sites and conditions, inspect slopes, and perform fieldwork.

Travel Requirements:

  • Overnight travel may be required – up to 20% of the time.

  • Regular travel to Company’s field operations. Approximately 90% of time in field, typically within 2 hours of the Denver–Fort Collins Corridor.
